Forget complicated key combinations. The BitBox02 is operated via invisible touch sensors on the sides of the casing. On the razor-sharp OLED display you verify every transaction and every address directly on the device before approving it. This gives hackers no chance to manipulate data unnoticed.

Backup solution: simple and secure

A highlight of the BitBox02 is its effortless backup system. Your recovery words are automatically saved to the included microSD card.
Should you ever lose your device, restoring your wallet takes just seconds. For maximum security, you can also display the BIP-39 words and use the Seedor Safe Starter Set to back them up permanently in steel.

Important note: The BitBox02 is compatible with Windows, macOS, Linux and Android (via USB-C). It does not currently support a connection to iPhone or iPad (for that we recommend the BitBox02 Nova).

• Password entry directly on the device: Your device password is never entered via the computer, which rules out keylogger attacks.
• Open-Source & Deterministic Builds: The firmware is fully open source and the binaries are independently verifiable – for maximum transparency.
• Secure verification: All transaction data and addresses are shown on the device’s own display and must be confirmed by you with a touch gesture.
• Device attestation: A cryptographic mechanism ensures that the device is a genuine Shift Crypto unit and not a counterfeit.
• Externally audited firmware: The software has been thoroughly scrutinised by independent security experts.
• Encrypted communication: Data exchange between the BitBox02 and the app is encrypted via the Noise protocol to prevent eavesdropping on the USB connection.
• Doubly protected seed: Your private key (seed) is stored encrypted on the microcontroller and is protected by both the secure chip and your device password.
• Multiple entropy sources: Several sources of randomness are combined to generate your seed, guaranteeing maximum uniqueness.
• Protection against brute-force attacks:
  • A monotonic counter in the secure chip limits the number of password entry attempts.
  • Password stretching ensures that every guessing attempt is extremely time-consuming, making automated attacks impossible.
• Secure bootloader:
  • Only accepts firmware that has been digitally signed by Shift Crypto.
  • Can display the firmware’s hash value before startup (binary transparency).
  • Prevents firmware downgrades to older, potentially insecure versions.
• Advanced protection: Protection against “nonce covert channel” attacks and optional support for the BIP-39 passphrase (25th word).
