Chancellor on Brink - a message in the genesis block

Motif and meaning

On 3 January 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto immortalised the headline "Chancellor on brink of second bailout for banks" in the Bitcoin genesis block.

The headline served as proof of when the first block was created. At the same time, it reads like a commentary on the financial system of the day: while banks were once again to be rescued with state aid, an independent monetary system was beginning in the background - without a central bank and without privileged middlemen.

The sticker thus recalls the origin of Bitcoin - and the question of why an alternative monetary system became necessary in the first place.
